In 2000, St. John Paul II established the second Sunday of Easter as “Divine Mercy Sunday.” In a later message he explains, “As a gift to humanity, which sometimes seems bewildered and overwhelmed by the power of evil, selfishness, and fear, the Risen Lord offers His love that pardons, reconciles, and reopens hearts to love. It is a love that converts hearts and gives peace. How much the world needs to understand and accept Divine Mercy!

‘Lord, who reveals the Father’s love by Your death and Resurrection, we believe in You and confidently repeat to You today: Jesus, I trust in You, have mercy upon us and upon the whole world.’”

As we continue to celebrate the Easter sacraments of initiation and support the newly baptized (neophytes), those who professed faith in the holy, Catholic Church and those who completed their sacraments of initiation, we acknowledge that we are on a life-long journey of deepening our faith. We never travel alone. We walk together and continue Christ’s mission of solidarity with people living on the margins of society and we acknowledge that we don’t always advocate on their behalf. We are always in need of God’s mercy. We are to be signs to those around us of God’ mercy.

The next OCIA cohort begins meeting Monday, May 5, with the sacraments of initiation scheduled for Sunday, October 5, 2025. The group meets Mondays from 7 – 8:30 pm, with breaks for holidays.

The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) is open to a) those seeking to be baptized, b) baptized Christians seeking full Communion with the Catholic Church and c) baptized Catholics seeking to complete their sacraments of initiation: Confirmation and/or Eucharist.
