Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ
- Katie Bak, Sr. Director of Admin & Facilities
Let’s be honest: church can sometimes feel really abstract. We talk a lot about big theological ideas and ancient traditions. But Corpus Christi—the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ—is a massive shift from the theoretical to the physical.
It’s a reminder that Jesus didn't just leave us a philosophy, a self-help book, or a checklist of rules. He left us a meal. He chose bread and wine—the most everyday, communal elements—to say, "I am radically present with you, right here in the real-ness of human life."
For our community at Saint Clement, this feast hits differently. In a culture that leaves so many of us feeling isolated, anxious, or weary from fighting for a better world, the Eucharist is where we recharge. It’s an inclusive table where everyone belongs, and it’s a blueprint for how we’re supposed to live.
When we receive Communion, we aren't just doing a private ritual. We’re fueling up to go out and be the body of Christ in Chicago. It’s a call to take that same unconditional love, justice, and radical hospitality out the front doors and directly into our neighborhoods.
So, what's next?
This summer, we want you to fully dive into our Clement community. Whether it's showing up on Sunday, joining us for Theology on Tap or Wine Down Wednesday , or volunteering on campus, there is a place for you here.
But don't keep it to yourself. The body of Christ isn't a closed circle—it's an ever-widening table. Think about who in your life is looking for belonging, purpose, or a safe place to wrestle with faith. Grab a friend, invite a coworker, or reach out to a neighbor, and bring them along with you this summer. Let’s expand the table together.
