Inspired & led by the Holy Spirit: Sharing stories as we approach Pentecost

As we prepare to celebrate Pentecost, the birth of the church and the beginning of our story as the church, we come to celebrate the power of the Holy Spirit that in every "time and age" leads and directs our church. During this week before Pentecost, we will hear from parishioners sharing how they have seen the Holy Spirit at work. We hope that as you read these stories, you will recognize your own call to active participation, discipleship and community here at Saint Clement.

Video reflection from Roberta Edwards

"I've never felt that I belong anywhere so much as I belong to Saint Clement. It's my home away from home, and I love it."

Video reflection from Andrew Alvarez

"Especially leading up to Easter, it was just a great way to set aside some time that can be tricky to do when we're so busy in our personal lives, but to set aside that time to grow with the community and have some personal growth and just spend time reflecting and preparing for that holiday season. I had a really great experience with events like that, and they're happening all the time. So, I just love being a part of Saint Clement."

A testament to the Holy Spirit moving among us at Saint Clement

Reflection from Kelly Deehan, Campus Minister

During this past year at Saint Clement, I have continually seen how our community has “lived up to the hype” which I first heard about when I accepted this position. I have been so grateful for the ways in which I have been welcomed when I first arrived and throughout the year. But I also have been so thankful to witness the power of welcome with our families who are new to Saint Clement. I so enjoy talking with new families who have shared this first year together with me.

Throughout conversations this year, new families have shared the stories of how the desire for community has brought them to our school and in some cases a school community was only the first step. As they begin to feel a sense of belonging, they find a home in our parish and even in the Catholic Church for the first time. It is a joy to witness this work of the Spirit. Especially after these past two years, the Holy Spirit seeks to heal us from the wounds of isolation.

The Holy Spirit works to bring about communion. When new people bravely walk through our doors or look at our website, the Spirit is tugging at their hearts, calling them into community and to be closer to Jesus. Community should draw us into an encounter with Christ, as he tells us how He is present where we gather in His name.

On Pentecost, we hear how the Holy Spirit brings about the birth of the Church. The Spirit empowers the disciples to make the message of Christ accessible to all and through that call to conversion and unity, the Church is born. In these summer months, when so many new people join us here at Saint Clement, let us rejoice in the work of the Spirit, who has drawn each of us here and let us continue to pray for a greater attentiveness to the workings of the Holy Spirit in each of our lives.
